Bilateral Relations
The Greek Romanian community numbers some 10,000 and there are many Greeks working in established Greek enterprises in Romania.
Romania has recognized 19 minorities, including the historical, indigenous Greek minority. The Greek language is recognized and taught in Romania as a minority language, and the official Romanian body of the Greek minority is the Hellenic Union of Romania, which is represented in the Romanian Parliament. Numerous Greeks, either entrepreneurs or employees, are active in Greek businesses established there. Since September 2008, the private Greek school "Athena" has been operating in Bucharest. The Lectorate of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Iași also operates there, while the University of Bucharest has a Department of Classical Philology and Modern Greek Studies.
