During the events marking 28 October in Kelcyre, Albania, a group of Albanian nationalist extremists provoked a small-scale incident aimed at representatives of the Greek embassy who had travelled to the town for the celebrations. To avoid further escalation of the incident, which was unprecedented, the Albanian police were asked to intervene.
The Foreign Ministry unequivocally condemns this conduct and these actions, which were aimed at marring the celebration of the national anniversary and undermining the bilateral relations that are developing positively to the benefit of both countries.
Greece and Albania are taking steps to embark on a new era in their relations, based on mutual respect and their common European future. Those responsible for these actions must receive a clear message that this central choice of both governments is irreversible and expresses the true will of both peoples.
