Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis meets with His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa (Athens, 17 December 2020)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis today met, at his office, with His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.

Welcoming the Patriarch, the Deputy Minister expressed the respect and pleasure of the Greek state and himself personally at the honour of His Divine Beatitude’s presence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was briefed on the Patriarchate’s activities in the Greek community of Egypt and on the African continent. Mr. Vlasis praised the multifaceted work carried out by the high-ranking clergy of the Church of Saint Mark, under the spiritual guidance of Patriarch Theodoros, on a religious, philanthropic, educational and cultural level. He did not omit to express to His Beatitude his condolences at the passing of Metropolitan Petros of Caesarea and Nephon of Pilousion, who adorned the Church of Alexandria with their work and action.   

His Divine Beatitude Theodoros thanked the Deputy Minister for his kind words and especially for the support of the Greek state of the work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. He underscored the multifaceted work of Metropolitans Petros and Nephon. He also referred to his recently completed pastoral visit to Kenya, and specifically to the Archdiocese of Nairobi and the Dioceses of Kisumu and Eldoret, where he was warmly received by the local authorities and the Church’s parishioners.
