Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris meets with His Beatitude Theodore II, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa (Athens, 11 December 2018)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris met, on 11 December, with His Beatitude Theodore II, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa who was visiting Athens, accompanied by his representative in Athens, the Metropolitan of Guinea, George.

The Deputy Minister referred to the possibilities of improved coordination and interconnection of the global communities of ecumenical Hellenism, in Greece and Cyprus, including those in Africa, and asked for the assistance of the Patriarch of Alexandria in this common challenge for Church and State, who responded positively to the request.

His Beatitude, Patriarch Theodore, briefed the Deputy Minister on the missionary activity of the Patriarchate in Africa, stressing the priority it places on the operation of new schools, Greek language learning centres, as well as health centres in African countries. Patriarch Theodore also presented his initiatives for the renovation of Holy Churches in Cairo and Alexandria, as well as for the operation of a cultural centre in Alexandria, which will showcase Greek culture and Orthodoxy.
