Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis today met with the Swedish Ambassador to Athens, Charlotte Sammelin. The subject of the meeting was bilateral cooperation with Sweden on exchange of know-how and adoption of best practices for dealing with climate change, protecting the environment and promoting the circular economy.
The talks focused on sustainable development. Specifically, the two sides put forward their proposals for circular economy actions, maritime spatial planning and related prospects for cooperation.
Mr. Varvitsiotis expressed his increased interest in the issue, stressing that the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU promoted maritime spatial planning during his time as Minister of Shipping.
Finally, the Alternate Minister accepted the Swedish side’s proposal to hold a workshop at the University of Stockholm this spring, with the participation of Greek and Swedish academics, in preparation for the collaboration between the two sides.
