Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the two-year anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine (24.02.2024)

Today marks two years since the unlawful Russian aggression against Ukraine, which has led to the loss of thousands of human lives and immeasurable destruction.

Greece stands firmly by the side of the brave Ukrainian people who are fighting for their independence and sovereignty. Our support for the government and people of Ukraine is ongoing and sincere.

Our stance is unequivocal: changes to internationally recognized borders through the use of military force are contrary to the Charter of the United Nations thus, unacceptable.

Respect for territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and independence of all states, as well as the prohibition of the use or the threat of use of force in international relations, constitute fundamental principles of International Law and non-negotiable principles of Greek foreign policy.

Greece does not forget the victims of the Russian attacks and the destruction in Mariupol, a region where significant Greek communities have thrived for centuries.

We remain determined to continue supporting Ukraine in its righteous defensive cause.
