In the context of the continuous monitoring of the situation in Sudan and coordination of actions for the evacuation of Greeks from this country, two meetings of the Crisis Management Unit were convened today, April 23, by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, with the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ senior leadership, the Greek Ambassador in Cairo and the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. The first took place this morning and the second has just concluded.
Following the Minister of Foreign Affairs' constant contacts for the safe evacuation of the Greek citizens from Sudan, the first group of Greek citizens, including the two injured, has left Sudan, with the assistance of France and is on board a flight to Djibouti. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was briefed on this development.
The Ambassador of Greece to Ethiopia and the Honorary Consul of our country in Djibouti are already there to receive the Greek citizens and provide any assistance.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has extended his thanks to his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna, as well as to the French Minister of State for International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, for France's substantial assistance in the safe removal of the above-mentioned Greeks from Sudan.
The process and coordination with EU partners and allies regarding the evacuation of the rest of the Greeks and their family members are ongoing.
