The emphasis placed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on supporting Greek language learning and promoting Greek culture internationally was underlined by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsiras, in his address delivered yesterday, Thursday, at the opening of the conference on "Modern Greek language teaching in universities abroad: challenges and perspectives". The Modern Greek Language Teaching Center of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the European Society of Modern Greek Studies are organizing the conference in Athens.
As Mr. Kotsiras noted, "our starting point is the Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad and the Strategic Plan for Public Diplomacy, two plans with a four-year horizon, the key pillars of which include, inter alia, the promotion of the Greek language and history, as well as the promotion of the country's cultural capital, with emphasis on the use of new technological tools".
In this regard, the Deputy Minister pointed out recent actions including the upgrade of the Greek language teaching platform staellinika.com and the cooperation with “Study in Greece” agency, which aim to strengthen Greece's presence in the international academic scene and provide opportunities for foreign and Greek Diaspora students to gain a deeper understanding of our language, history, and culture. Mr. Kotsiras made special reference to the cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Athens. The Deputy Minister emphasized the "crucial role" played by the University of Athens in promoting the Greek language, which is a "constituent and existential component for the entire Hellenism".
