Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to visit Israel and Cyprus (21.07.2021)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias will travel to Israel tomorrow, where he is expected to meet with his new counterpart Yair Lapid. Talks are expected to focus on further strengthening the already exceptional cooperation between Greece and Israel in all fields, on multilateral cooperation schemes in the region, as well as on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East region.

Immediately afterwards, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit Cyprus, where he is expected to be received by the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis. He will also meet with his counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, as well as with the Mayor of Famagusta, Mr. Simos Ioannou.

Joint statements with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus will be made at about 14:00.

This visit, taking place one day after the 47th anniversary of the Turkish invasion, falls within the context of supporting the efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue on the basis of the relevant Resolutions of the UN Security Council and the European Acquis, that is a bi-zonal, bi-communal Federation. Close coordination to address the Turkish unlawful conduct is also expected to be discussed.
