On the tragic 10th anniversary of the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, which has already left hundreds of thousands dead and millions of refugees, Greece, which actively promotes the based on International Law consolidation of peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, continues to support the efforts to achieve a political solution.
This solution must ensure the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Achievement of this solution requires the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from the country’s territory. Moreover, Syria must cease to be a field of conflict for foreign interests that act to the detriment of the country and the Syrian people.
In this context, Greece continues to fully support the efforts being made by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen.
It should be noted in this regard that Greece continues to host thousands of Syrian refugees, to whom it provides humanitarian and social assistance, bearing a significant burden in relation to its capabilities.
