The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mourns the loss of the Ambassador ret. Adamantios Vasilakis, an outstanding diplomat who honored our country and was a model and source of inspiration for all those who have had the privilege of knowing him.
Ambassador Adamantios Vasilakis entered the Diplomatic Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and during his tenure served in key positions in the European Union and the United Nations.
In the period 2002-2007 he was the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations. In 2005-2006 he represented Greece in the UN Security Council. Since 2007 was the chief negotiator of Greece in the negotiations with the UN Secretary General's Personal Envoy on the naming dispute, M. Nimetz.
Adamantios Vasilakis served Greece with honesty, dignity and loyalty to duty. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the political and service leadership of the Ministry, as well as his colleagues express their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
