Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement to ERT TV Channel and journalist Katerina Fryssa following his participation in the 55th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (Geneva, 28.02.2024)In times of major challenges for human rights, Greece is actively engaged in the international discussion about their protection.

Today, I had the opportunity to address the United Nations Human Rights Council, meet with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and have an extensive discussion about everything happening.

Unfortunately, human rights are at this moment in a significant decline, both due to crises, particularly the armed conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and due to global issues, such as the climate crisis, the food crisis, and the health crisis.

At this juncture, the serious issues we must address demand an active presence of the international community.

Greece will be present in this international discussion.

It is Greece's obligation, as well as the obligation of the international community, to protect all vulnerable categories of citizens, safeguard future generations' rights, create conditions for sustainability, and ensure human freedom, equality and human dignity.
