Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, N. Kotzias, following the Informal ‘Gymnich’ Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Vienna, 31 August 2018)Yesterday and today we had the Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs. We discussed the situation in the Middle East and in Syria in particular. I underscored the need for us to persist with a policy of peace through practical measures, which are not taken yet, that ensure the return of the refugees.

We talked about transatlantic relations and the need for Europe to have an independent policy on the issues on which there is discord.

Today we talked further about the Western Balkans. Once again, Greece supported the orientation towards Europe of the Western Balkan states, with which it collaborates, and where Greece can and must play a special, decisive role.
