Deputy FM Gerontopoulos meets with delegations from American Greek and Jewish organizations

Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos met today, 15 January, with delegations of representatives of American Greek and Jewish organizations, within the framework of the first joint visit they are carrying out to Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

During the meeting, Mr. Gerontopoulos briefed the delegations on issues concerning Greek-Israeli and Greek-American relations, as well as on our country’s initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, stability and cooperation in the region. He also proposed that a joint conference be held in Thessaloniki to strengthen cooperation between Greeks and Jews abroad on Diaspora issues, noting that the Greek side would like to see this cooperation institutionalized via the signing of a Memorandum between Greece, Cyprus and Israel on the promotion of Diaspora issues.

Addressing the representatives of the American Greek and Jewish organizations, Mr. Gerontopoulos stressed that “we need to point up the strategic cooperation between our countries. We are determined to enhance Greek-Israeli cooperation in areas of common interest, including in the sectors of energy and tourism. Now that Greece is emerging from the crisis, it is becoming a more promising country for investments and development of entrepreneurship.”
