Deputy FM Gerontopoulos meets with European Development Commissioner Piebalgs and Irish Trade Minister Costello

Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos met with the European Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs on the margins of the European Commission’s “European Development Days” event, which took place in Brussels on 26 and 27 November.

Having expressed his deep condolences at the recent tragedy in Riga, Mr. Gerontopoulos briefed the Latvian Commissioner on the upcoming Hellenic Presidency’s priorities on development cooperation issues:

•    the shaping of a post-2015 development framework,

•    the role of the private sector in development,

•    development cooperation based on human rights,

•    migration and development cooperation, and

•    strengthening the EU’s partnership with countries of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific.

Mr. Gerontopoulos also met on the margins of the event with Irish Trade and Development Minister Joe Costello, whom he briefed on the priorities of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2014.
