Deputy FM Gerontopoulos meets with representatives of Greek Communities in Johannesburg

Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos, continuing his visit to South Africa, met yesterday with representatives of the Federation of Hellenic Communities of the Johannesburg region, with whom he discussed Greek Community issues an particularly the matter of teaching the Greek language to the younger generation.

During the discussion, Mr. Gerontopoulos noted, “I am pleased that the Greek community of South Africa distinguishes itself in every sector and promotes our homeland on this continent. We Greeks have to be united in solidarity with each other. You have my heartfelt congratulations on the wonderful work you have been doing here for decades, and because you stand out in this country, however many difficulties you face. And I want to ask each of you to help the homeland in whatever way you can in these difficult times. And I am sure that you do.”

Mr. Gerontopoulos also visited the University of Johannesburg’s Greek Studies department, at which over 100 students are studying.
