Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos met in Nicosia on Friday, 1 November, with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades. During their talks, they reaffirmed the coincidence of views of Athens and Nicosia on the Cyprus issue, and they also looked at developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
In statements following the meeting, Mr. Gerontopoulos stressed the following: “I thank President Anastasiades for the meeting and the talks we had on issues that concern and interest Greece and Cyprus. We reaffirmed the coincidence of our views on the Cyprus issue, at this critical phase. We also agreed that Athens and Nicosia are – despite the economic crisis – currently the only stable links in the Eastern Mediterranean and are factors for stability, which Hellenism can capitalize on. I believe that, on this basis, we can have better prospects for the future and give Greeks the hope that they truly need right now.”
