Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos will be carrying out a visit to South Africa from 15 to 20 November. During his visit he will meet with members of the Greek South African community, declare the opening of a conference being organized by HIP ALLIANCE to attract direct investments to Greece, and will meet with members of the South African government.
Mr. Gerontopoulos’ itinerary starts on Saturday, 16 November, in Cape Town, where he will meet with Archbishop Sergios of the Cape of Good Hope and visit the city’s Greek Community, the Greek school, and the Greek Dance Academy. On Sunday he will attend mass at the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George and talk to members of the Greek Community of Cape Town.
On Sunday, 17 November, Mr. Gerontopoulos will depart for Johannesburg, where he will meet with representatives of the Federation of Greek Communities of South Africa and representatives of HIP ALLIANCE, a business cooperation forum that will be hosting a conference that Mr. Gerontopoulos will open on Tuesday morning.
On Monday, 18 November, Mr. Gerontopoulos will visit the SAHETI Greek school, where he will meet with Ioannis Bizos, on of the school’s founders, a lawyer of Nelson Mandela, and president of the D. Bizos Council, and he will also meet with students and teachers. He will then visit Lilliesleaf Museum, which is dedicated to the struggle against Apartheid. On Monday evening he will meet with South African Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim.
On the morning of Tuesday, 19 November, Mr. Gerontopoulos will declare the opening of the HIP ALLIANCE conference, afterwards visiting the Nomeikios Old Age Home and the Cathedral of Saint Nektarios. On Tuesday afternoon Mr. Gerontopoulos will meet with Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba.
On Wednesday, 20 November, Mr. Gerontopoulos will visit the Greek and Latin Studies Department of the University of Johannesburg, where he will talk with students and professors. He will then depart for Pretoria, where he will visit the Greek Community Centre and talk to members of the local Greek community, afterwards visiting the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary.
