Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos made the following statement regarding the case of the abduction of nuns in Syria:
“We were informed, to our very great concern, of the abduction of nuns from the Greek Orthodox Mar Takla (Saint Thecla) Convent, in the town of Maaloula, in Syria. According to the information we have so far, none of the abducted nuns is a Greek citizen. The Foreign Ministry is in ongoing contact with our Embassy in Beirut and the Patriarchate of Antioch regarding this specific case, so that it might have a positive outcome.”
