Deputy FM Kourkoulas addresses the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs today approved – in principle, article by article, and in its entirety – by a majority the draft law on the ratification of Croatia’s Act of Accession to the European Union. The government was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas.

Addressing the committee, Mr. Kourkoulas underscored that Croatia’s accession to the EU contributes significantly to strengthening peace and stability in our neighbourhood, while at the same time reaffirming the Union’s dedication to the European perspective of the Western Balkans, which is a fundamental strategic goal of Greek Foreign policy.

Mr. Kourkoulas noted that Greece participated actively in the accession negotiations, effectively defending its natural interests in vital sectors such as maritime transport, Greek protected designation of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indication (PGI) products, and Regional Policy. At the same time, Greece showed a spirit of solidarity with Croatia, based on the principles and values of the Union and Greece’s goal of reinvigorating the European perspective of the Western Balkans through Agenda 2014.
