Deputy FM Kourkoulas meets with a delegation of MEPs

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas met at the Foreign Ministry today with a delegation of MEPs from the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection.

Mr. Kourkoulas briefed the Committee members on the policy priorities for the Greek EU Presidency in the first half of 2014, expressing his satisfaction at the fact that the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee of the European Parliament is the first to visit Greece ahead of the upcoming Greek Presidency.

Mr. Kourkoulas referred to the unprecedented effort undertaken by the Greek people in recent years to emerge from the crisis, also noting the improvement seen in macroeconomic aggregates.

With regard to the upcoming European Parliament elections, Mr. Kourkoulas underscored that the current challenge is to re-establish the European ideals in the hearts and minds of Europe’s citizens, stating that a victory for anti-European forces in the European elections would be a disgrace.

The MEP delegation, headed by the Chairman of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee, Malcolm Harbour, is carrying out a two-day visit to Athens for meetings with members of the government and with market agencies.
