Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas met at the Foreign Ministry today, 5 December 2013, with Moldovan Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iulian Groza.
Mr. Kourkoulas congratulated his Moldovan counterpart on the initialling of the EU-Moldova Association agreement, in Vilnius, in the framework of the 29 November Summit Meeting. The two Deputy Ministers had an in-depth discussion of EU-Moldovan cooperation issues ahead of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2014, including waiving of the visa requirement for Moldovan citizens, and they decided on the countries’ close cooperation on European issues.
Mr. Kourkoulas expressed his satisfaction at the excellent level of Greek-Moldovan relations, as well as his hope for the upgrading of Greek-Moldovan economic cooperation. The Greek side wants to see an increase in bilateral trade and a more dynamic presence of Greek enterprises in the Moldovan market.
Also decided upon was the convening, in the near future. of a Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Technological and Scientific Cooperation.
Finally, Mr. Kourkoulas conveyed an invitation from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos for Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman to visit Greece in the near future.
