Deputy FM Kourkoulas on visit to China – 11th Greek-Chinese Joint Interministerial Committee

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas – accompanied by the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Peter Mihalos, and Ministry officials – participated today in the 11th Greek-Chinese Joint Interministerial Committee (JIC), in Beijing. The Chinese delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister for foreign trade affairs ZHONG Shan.

The agenda for the meeting included commercial and economic relations issues, with a focus on matters pertaining to the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the sectors of investments, shipping, tourism, transport and energy. Both sides ascertained the positive course of economic relations between the two countries, the dynamic of which points up the major prospects for substantial further development.

In this context, Mr. Kourkoulas briefed the Chinese delegation on the new legislative and regulatory framework that facilitates attraction of investments and improves the competitiveness of the Greek economy, underscoring that, following the recent Eurogroup decision, the Greek stabilization programme is definitively on track to emerge from the crisis. The Chinese delegation reaffirmed the desire for further development of commercial and economic relations with Greece, responding positively to the proposal for the opening of a China Development Bank representation office in Athens.
