Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas will be in Strasbourg on Tuesday, 10 December, at the European Parliament Plenary, where he will address the European Parliament Conference of Committee Chairs,
European Parliament’s Conference of Committee Chairs is comprised of the Chairs of the European Parliament’s 20 Committees and 2 Subcommittees. The Conference of Committee Chairs plays an important role in coordinating the work of the European Parliament. Mr. Kourkoulas will present the priorities of the upcoming Hellenic Presidency, talking specifically about the programme for promoting the adoption of important legislative and other initiatives during the first half of 2014, or their fine-tuning so that they can be adopted during the Italian Presidency.
The discussion will cover legislative initiatives related to the Banking Union, economic governance, the European political parties, enlargement policy, EU own resources, and programmes for combatting youth unemployment.
Also to be discussed are important bills on the environment, gender equality issues, integration of the internal market, the digital marketplace, the energy and transport markets, immigration issues, as well as external trade relations and the negotiations with strategic partners such as the U.S., Japan, and China.
The main purpose of the meeting is for there to be an agreement with the European Parliament as to specific legislative priorities, bearing in mind the limited session of the European Parliament, which will meet for its last Plenary in April 2014.
