Deputy Foreign Minister Spyros Kouvelis met at the Foreign Ministry, at 12:00 on Tuesday, 5 April 2011, with the Japanese Ambassador to Athens, Mr. Hiroshi Toda.
Mr. Kouvelis expressed the support of the Greek government and Greek people for the people of Japan at this difficult time. Mr. Kouvelis also conveyed his concerns regarding the situation at the Fukushima nuclear plant and reiterated Greece’s commitment to the non-use of nuclear energy and promotion of renewable energy sources.
Mr. Kouvelis referred to Greece’s readiness to send a Hellenic Firefighting Service Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) team and a volunteer team to Japan.
