Deputy FM Kouvelis participates in Adriatic-Ionian Initiative Ministerial (Brussels, 23 May 2011)

Foreign Minister Spyros Kouvelis participated on 23 May in the 13th Meeting of Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (AII) Foreign Ministers, which took place in Brussels, under the chairmanship of Montenegro.

In his address, Mr. Kouvelis referred to the progress that has been made within the framework of the AII on promoting the proposal for the creation of an Adriatic-Ionian macroregion, which is to be implemented by 2014, thus coinciding with Greece’s Agenda 2014 initiative for the accession of the Western Balkans to the European Union.

He also set as a priority the development of pan-European networks in the sectors of energy and transport, and, finally, proposed the holding of a conference this year with social partners to promote the idea of the Adriatic-Ionian macroregion.
