Deputy Foreign Minister Spyros Kouvelis will carry out a visit to Azerbaijan from 1 to 3 February 2011. Mr. Kouvelis will travel to Baku to participate in the 3rd Greek-Azerbaijani Joint Interministerial Committee (JIC), and he will also have a number of bilateral meetings.
Mr. Kouvelis will meet one-on-one with the co-chair of the JIC, Industry and Energy Minister Natiq Aliyev, Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev, and the head of the state agency for alternative and renewable energy sources, Mr. Akim Badanov. He will also meet with Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Hussein Baghirov.
Mr. Kouvelis’s talks with Azerbaijani officials will focus on strengthening economic cooperation around the basic axis of energy and pipelines – particularly the ITGI. There will be a discussion of the distribution of natural gas from the Shah Deniz 2 deposit, which will allow materialization of the ITGI. Other sectors of interest include construction, health, infrastructure projects, hospitals, diagnostic centers and cooperation on shipping and communications.
