Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Tsiaras participated in the Informal Meeting of EU member-state Ministers for Development Cooperation in Dublin.
International development cooperation after 2015 was the main item on the agenda.
Mr. Tsiaras noted the need to adopt a common approach to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a view to shaping a unified framework for international development cooperation after 2015.
Regarding the fragile situation in the Horn of Africa and the situation in Mali, Mr. Tsiaras focused on the need to combine humanitarian and development cooperation and to establish sustainable democratic institutions and rule of law to support the adaptation efforts of countries in transition.
Finally, Mr. Tsiaras put particular emphasis on the effort the EU needs to make to find new ways to fund development through mobilization of the private sector.
In the framework of his visit Mr. Tsiaras met with members of the Greek community, with whom he discussed the need to create a new World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) as an organ representing global Hellenism.
