Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Tsiaras was in Brussels yesterday, 15 May 2013, to participate in the High-Level International Donors Conference for Mali, which was organized by France and the EU, in collaboration with the government of Mali.
The aim of the conference was to support the Mali reconstruction plan, which was drawn up by the country’s government in collaboration with the French government.
The international community’s goals include:
1. a new start, on a healthy foundation, in confronting terrorism and ensuring normalcy in the day-to-day life of the population,
2. building democratic institutions, and
3. laying the foundations for long-term sustainable development.
Representing Greece, Mr. Tsiaras supported the initiative, stating that, despite the major difficulties Greece is facing and the efforts it is making to confront the economic crisis, Greece is standing by the Malian people, donating a symbolic sum.
