The loss of the exceptional journalist and good friend Dimitris Kastanas has caused great sorrow, leaving an unfillable void. Over the course of over 30 years of serious journalism, he had the privilege of living through vital moments for Hellenism both abroad and here at home. He immortalized these moments through the power of the television image and the pulse of his words.
In his leading role in Greek American television news, he founded the first private Greek TV station in the world. He was catalytic in his promotion of Hellenism’s national positions and created an open bridge of communication and news between diaspora Greeks and the homeland.
Like many other Greeks abroad – and despite the major difficulties to be confronted – he proved enviably successful in his career, armed mainly with the principles of creative and hard work, and dedication to a goal.
Dimitris Kastanas honoured Greece with his life’s work. A champion of ideals and pioneer in news media, he did diaspora Hellenism an invaluable service and built up multifaceted philanthropic work.
I express my deep condolences and heartfelt support to his family.
