Lim, launched the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment, of diplomatic relations between Greece and the Republic of Korea in April 1961.

The ties of deep friendship and cooperation that bind Greece and the Republic of Korea were forever sealed during the Korean War, through the heroism and sacrifice of the soldiers of the Greek Expeditionary Force.

In his address, Mr. Fragogiannis pointed out that from the establishment of diplomatic relations until today Greek-Korean bilateral relations have developed impressively in all sectors. Of particular note is also the contribution of the Greek shipping community to the Korean economy through the shipbuilding of Greek shipping companies at South Korean shipyards.

Deputy Minister Fragogiannis underscored that both Greece and South Korea have been successful in responding to the challenge of the pandemic and in safeguarding their citizens’ health. The end of the pandemic will allow for a return to normalcy in Greek-Korean relations as well.

As the Deputy Minister stressed, in spite of the excellent level of our bilateral relations, there is clearly room for further improvement. It should be a common goal in the years to come to increase trade, investment and tourism flows, and to promote even closer cooperation across the range of our bilateral relations, and especially in the shipping sector.
