Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgios Kotsiras’ statement during his visit to Istanbul on the occasion of the Epiphany celebration at the Ecumenical Patriarchate (Istanbul, 06.01.2024)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgios Kotsiras, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended today’s celebration of Epiphany at the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Following the ceremony of the Blessing of the Waters, Mr. Kotsiras made the following statement:

"It was with immense joy and emotion that I represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at today's Epiphany celebration at the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in the heart of Orthodoxy.

Along with a large congregation, I attended the magnificent Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Saint George and the ceremony of the Blessing of the Waters and the immersion of the Holy Cross in the Golden Horn.

The celebration of Epiphany sends a message of hope and optimism to the world. On this significant day for Orthodoxy and global Hellenism, I reaffirm the Greek State’s unwavering support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and its valuable, multifaceted mission.

I emphasized this during my meeting with His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, a religious leader whose global influence and significant contribution are internationally recognized.

Strengthening our ties with Orthodox ecclesiastical institutions is a major cohesive factor between the metropolitan center and the Diaspora, aligning with our strategic goals for Hellenism abroad.

We have achieved significant national achievements in all sectors and have strengthened our country's international standing. Thus, we can look to the future with renewed confidence.

With unity, constant effort, and perseverance, we strive for a thriving, more robust, and equitable Greece, a homeland that will instill pride in Greeks worldwide. Our steadfast goal is to fortify the Greek element worldwide, enhance its relations with the motherland, and forge a better tomorrow for Hellenism.

I extend my wishes for many happy returns, good health, and enlightenment to Greeks all over the world!"
