The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsiras emphasized the depth of the historical relations between Greece and Japan and the commitment of both countries to international cooperation, international law, and the Law of the Sea, in his address at the presentation of the exhibition "Relations between Greece and Japan through Diplomatic Documents", organized by the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens, on the occasion of the 2024 Greece-Japan Year of Culture and Tourism.
As Mr. Kotsiras noted Greece and Japan are celebrating 125 years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations. The two nations represent two great ancient civilizations. They are connected by bonds of friendship and mutual respect. They are facing common challenges.
"Our countries have engaged in a meaningful dialogue on all important issues on the basis of respect for international law", stressed the Deputy Minister, adding that as maritime states, Greece and Japan place special emphasis on freedom of navigation and respect for the Law of the Sea. "Greece's participation in the UN Security Council during the 2025-2026 term will further enhance our cooperation”, noted Mr. Kotsiras, highlighting the prospects for deepening the relations between the two countries and peoples.
