The significance of the Greek language in maintaining the connection between the metropolitan center and Greeks all over the world was emphasized by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsiras, speaking today on ERTNEWS TV’s show “Update” and to journalist Thanos Siafakas.
Mr. Kotsiras specifically mentioned the addition of French and German as working languages to the online platform for teaching the Greek language staellinika.com, as well as the future development of digital Greek language learning utilizing artificial intelligence. Furthermore, given the language’s role as a means of extroversion and our culture’s dissemination, and on the occasion of the International Greek Language Day on February 9 a variety of Greek language events are scheduled to take place at Greek Embassies, the Deputy Minister added.
The promotion of Greek language and culture is a component of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad, Mr. Kotsiras underlined, noting that this is the first time that we have a comprehensive, organized roadmap, with a four-year horizon, for strengthening ties with Greeks Abroad.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ government has a coordinated policy regarding Greeks living abroad, the Deputy Minister underscored. Postal voting is part of this policy, he stated, and called on the opposition parties to support its introduction in the national elections, thereby addressing a "self-evident demand" of Hellenism worldwide.
When asked about developments in the Middle East and the Red Sea, as well as our country's participation in the F-35 program, Mr. Kotsiras referred to the strategic depth of Greece's relationship with the US, as well as our country's role as a factor of stability in the region, underlining the diplomatic capital that Greece has acquired thanks to its reliable and multifaceted foreign policy.
