Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras’ speech at the Pan-Imvrian Conference "Imbros and Tenedos: Nostalgia and Perspective" (Athens, 28.9.2024)

The interest of the Hellenic State and the tangible support for the Hellenism of Gökçeada (Imvros), and Bozcaada (Tenedos) highlighted the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras, representing the Greek Government and the Prime Minister, at the Pan-Imvrian Conference "Imbros and Tenedos: Nostalgia and Perspective”.

In his address, Mr. Kotsiras referred to the long history of the Hellenism of Gökçeada (Imvros), and Bozcaada (Tenedos). He highlighted revival of Hellenism in Gökçeada (Imvros) that has been achieved in recent years thanks to the settlement of families of Imvrian origin on the island and the operation of schools at all l education levels.

The Deputy Minister praised the role and contribution of the Ecumenical Patriarch in the revitalization of Gökçeada (Imvros), as well as the tireless efforts of the Imvrian Associations. Moreover, he expressed hope that the island of Bozcaada (Tenedos) will follow a similar upward path.

In this context, he emphasized the importance of the Pan-Imvrian Conference — the first gathering of Imbrians and Tenedians from around the world after three decades — which is expected to focus on issues concerning the Hellenism of the two islands and explore ways for the sustainable economic development of the Greek communities.
