Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras’ statement at the 19th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie (Paris, 05.10.2024)

Greece is present at the 19th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie, this important multilateral organization that promotes not only the French language and cultural diversity but also values such as peace, democracy, human rights, education, innovation and sustainability.

Our country's participation in the International Organization of La Francophonie is linked, on the one hand, to our strong strategic relationship with France and our traditional ties of friendship with the Francophone world, and on the other hand, to our commitment to dialogue, International Law, and multilateral diplomacy. Our presence in this large community of 88 countries offers significant opportunities to promote our positions and further strengthens Greece's role globally.

We welcome the upgrade of Cyprus from associate member to full member of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

In a time of multidimensional crises and instability in our broader region, Greece remains a pillar of stability, having increased diplomatic capital, which our country utilizes with a sense of responsibility, especially in light of its participation as an elected member in the UN Security Council.

Through our active presence in multilateral institutions, we build bridges of understanding and promote stability and security worldwide.
