Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Vlasis meets with U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt (Athens, 27 January 2020)Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Vlasis met at his office today with U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt.

The talks focused on current issues of shared Greek-U.S. interest and highlighted the excellent climate in bilateral relations, the shared perception of a number of important issues, and the prospects for further deepening the cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Pyatt congratulated the Deputy Minister on his new duties and stressed the importance the U.S. attaches to Greece’s participation in the “Religious Freedom Alliance” initiative. He also commented very positively on the Deputy Minister’s recent speech promoting English-language programmes at Greek universities, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs event on “Building International Bridges: Opening Greek Universities to the World.”

Mr. Vlasis, reconfirming the excellent level of Greek-American relations, referred to prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ very successful visit to the U.S. and the letter of support from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. He also briefed the U.S. Ambassador on the trip he has scheduled for early February to Washington and New York, where he will participate in the Religious Freedom dinner and will meet with Greek community organizations.
