Deputy Prime Minister and FM Venizelos to participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in Luxembourg, the proceedings of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, and in the Med-Group Ministerial Meeting, in Alicante

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will participate on Holy Monday, 14 April, in Luxembourg, in the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

The FAC agenda includes the situation in Ukraine, with emphasis on the EU’s political and economic support for the country, as well as EU-Russia relations and, more specifically, confidence-building measures with Moscow. Also to be discussed are the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Middle East peace process, and the recent elections in Afghanistan. Particular emphasis will be put on the humanitarian dimension of the crisis in Syria, the Geneva talks on ending the civil conflict, and developments with regard to the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.

On the same day, Mr. Venizelos will travel to Strasbourg to address the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee regarding maritime security in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and he will also present a midterm assessment of the actions of the Hellenic Presidency.

On Holy Tuesday, 15 April, Mr. Venizelos will speak at the European Parliament Plenary, regarding the Banking Union, the return of cultural objects unlawfully removed from the territory of a Member State, the posting of workers, and Surveillance of EU external sea borders.

Finally, on Holy Wednesday, 16 April, Mr. Venizelos will travel to Alicante, Spain, to take part in the informal Ministerial Meeting of the Med-Group (Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta), where there will be a discussion of immigration flows in the Mediterranean and relevant EU policy, as well as Southern Neighbourhood issues, with emphasis on Libya.
