Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy communicated by phone today with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
Having referred to recent developments and situation taking shape in Egypt, Mr. Fahmy requested that Mr. Venizelos convey the contents of their conversation to the European Foreign Ministers who will be participating in tomorrow’s meeting in Majorca on the “Future of Europe,” as well as to the EU Foreign Affairs Council taking place this Monday, 21 July, in Brussels.
During their conversation, Mr. Venizelos mentioned in particular to the need to protect the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Greek community in Egypt, requesting the assistance of the Egyptian authorities.
Messrs. Venizelos and Fahmy agreed to meet as soon as possible to discuss issues of mutual interest.
