Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos confers by phone with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos spoke by phone a short while ago with the new German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whom the German Ambassador to Athens had already apprised of the content of his own conversation with Mr. Venizelos.

Mr. Steinmeier expressed the German government’s satisfaction at the immediate mobilization of the Greek authorities with the aim of solving the case involving shots fired at the German Ambassador’s residence in Halandri, as well as at Greece’s resolute stance in confronting terrorism.

Messrs. Venizelos and Steinmeier also had the opportunity to refer to the fiscal and economic achievements Greece has made – thanks to the hard sacrifices of the Greek people – as well as to the upcoming start of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Finally, they agreed to meet at the soonest possible time, in all probability following the official opening of the Hellenic Presidency on 8 January 2014, in Athens.
