Following his actions yesterday in Strasbourg, on the margins of the European Parliament Plenary, and the initiatives he has taken for the provision of support to those hit by the earthquake in Kefalonia, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos had a relevant discussion today, 6 January, with EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn on the issue of the potential for activating the European Solidarity Fund in the case of Kefalonia.
Mr. Hahn informed Mr. Venizelos that the services of the European Commission are considering the Greek request for Kefalonia’s entry into the European Solidarity Fund programme, and that he would get back to him as soon as possible with the response.
The meeting took place in the presence of Greek Commissioner Damanaki, on the margins of the special event on the European Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR), which is being co-hosted by the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Commission, and is being held today at the Divani Caravel Hotel.
