Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos meets with Henri Malosse, President of the European Economic and Social Committee

Growth and curbing unemployment – particularly youth unemployment – were the main subjects of discussion during Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos’ meeting at the Foreign Ministry today with the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Henri Malosse.

Mr. Venizelos presented to Mr. Malosse the state of play in the Greek economy, noting that Greece cannot be called upon to take additional fiscal measures that fuel the recession and unemployment, and requesting the assistance of the EESC in achieving the goal of shifting the prevailing European mindsets, which are the major problem in Europe at this time.

During the discussion, reference was made to specific programmes for creating new jobs in cooperation with municipalities (self-supervision and social labor) and to programmes supporting existing jobs in companies. This issue is directly linked to the matter of funding the real economy and SMEs in particular.

The EESC is collaborating closely with the Hellenic Economic and Social Committee, and Mr. Venizelos accepted with pleasure Mr. Malosse’s invitation to pay an official visit to the EESC at its headquarters in Brussels.
