Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos met in New York on Thursday, 26 September, with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic, within the framework of Ministerial Week at the 68th UN General Assembly.
They discussed the situation in the Western Balkan region, the progress of the Belgrade-Pristina negotiations, and preparations for the 2013 local elections in Kosovo.
Mr. Venizelos pointed out that it is an extremely positive coincidence that Greece is taking on the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2014, when Serbia’s accession negotiations with the EU are expected to open. Moreover, it is well known that the Euroatlantic perspective of the Western Balkans is a firm strategic choice of Greece.
Finally, the two Ministers discussed other regional issue of special interest to the two countries.
