Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos represented the Greek government today at the swearing-in of the new President of Egypt, conveying to Mr. Al-Sisi the congratulations and best wishes of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias, and the Greek government.
He also thanked outgoing transitional President Mansour for the close cooperation between the two countries.
On the margins of the ceremony and the state luncheon, Mr. Venizelos had the opportunity to exchange views with many of the heads of state and foreign ministers in attendance, mainly from the African and Arab world, and with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, N. Anastasiades.
Many of the Foreign Minister who were in Cairo today will be in Athens this coming Tuesday for the meeting of EU and Arab League Foreign Ministers and are scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Mr. Venizelos.
