Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos’ programme for 1-5 April 2014

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will be in Brussels on 1 April to take part in the Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers. During the two-day ministerial (1-2 April 2014), meetings will take place on the level of Foreign Ministers, the NATO-Ukraine Commission and the NATO-Georgia Commission, as well as between the Foreign Ministers of NATO member states and of countries contributing to NATO’s ISAF force.

On the morning of Tuesday, 1 April, Mr. Venizelos will participate in the International Conference on Genocide Prevention, which is being held by the Foreign Ministry of Belgium, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda.

On Wednesday and Thursday, 2 and 3 April, Mr. Venizelos will represent Greece at the proceedings of the EU-Africa Summit, which will focus on education, legal and illegal immigration flows between the two continents, development, job creation, and regional security. On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Venizelos will participate in the Summit Meeting on the Central African Republic, which is being co-hosted by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, and the Chairperson of the African Union, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. On the margins of the EU-Africa Summit, Mr. Venizelos will have bilateral meetings with colleagues from African states.

Finally, on Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 April, Mr. Venizelos will host the informal “Gymnich” meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, at Zappeion. The Gymnich gathering will look at all the current issues in the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods and assess the EU’s relations with its strategic partners. Within the framework of the Gymnich, a meeting will take place on Saturday, 5 April, between EU and candidate-country Foreign Ministers.
