Deputy Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos met today, for an informal one-on-one meeting on the margins of the NATO Ministerial in Brussels, with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. During the meeting they discussed the course of Greek-Turkish bilateral relations and regional developments. Below is the statement Mr. Venizelos made following the meeting:
E. VENIZELOS: In the one-on-one meeting I had with my Turkish colleague, Mr. Davutoglu, we carried out a political review of the state of play in our bilateral relations, with a brief reference to regional developments as well, because we are facing many pending issues that concern us, as they have caused a wave of migrants. But they also concern us because there is an issue of regional stability and international peace.
On the bilateral level, we talked about everything that is pending and on the table, and we agreed to use political and diplomatic channels of communication to deal with practical issues, and mainly to prepare very specific steps, always within the framework of international law and, more specifically, the international Law of the Sea.
