Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding yesterday’s terrorist attack on the passengers of a tourist bus near the Taba crossing point on the Egyptian-Israeli border:
“Greece unequivocally condemns the abhorrent criminal act on the passengers of a tourist bus in Sinai that cost the lives of four passengers and resulted in the injury of many others.
We express our deep condolences to the families of the victims and our hopes for a speedy recovery to the injured. The Egyptian people must know that, in these difficult moments, the Greek people stand at their side.
Greece condemns all acts of violence and terrorism and expresses its undivided support for the efforts to stabilize the political climate and strengthen a sense of security in the region.
Finally, we underscore Greece’s strong interest in the protection of the Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai, which is a monument of global religious and cultural heritage.”
