Eleventh meeting of the EU-Uzbekistan Cooperation Council takes place under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos (Brussels, 17 March 2014)

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos today chaired the eleventh meeting of the EU-Uzbekistan Cooperation Council, in Brussels.

The Uzbekistan delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, and the meeting focused on issues related to regional security in Central Asia, management of water resources, and recent developments in Afghanistan.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Venizelos had the opportunity, based on Greek-Uzbekistani bilateral cooperation, to refer to the close historical ties between the two countries, as well as to the strong presence of Hellenism in Tashkent. Mr. Kamilov invited Mr. Venizelos to visit Uzbekistan.
