Event celebrating Europe Day (9 May 2017)

The Foreign Ministry and the Representation of the European Commission in Athens are honouring Europe Day, 9 May, and the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome at a special event taking place tomorrow at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

The President of the Republic, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, will deliver a welcome address, while Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos will speak on behalf of the government. Also to address the event are EU Migration and Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, and the head of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, Panos Karvounis.

A book commemorating the 40-year presence of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece will be presented at the event.

During the second half of the event, the orchestra of the National Opera, under the direction of Ilias Voudouris, will present a program with the participation of artists from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Malta, Norway, Romania and the Czech Republic.
