On the occasion of International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, Greece’s Permanent Mission to the UN is today, Monday, 2 November 2015, organizing, jointly with the Lithuanian Permanent Mission and UNESCO, an interactive debate on “Ending impunity for crimes against journalists: Putting resolutions into practice”.
The declaration of this International Day resulted from the relevant UN General Assembly Resolution on “The safety of journalists and the issue of impunity”, which was adopted in November 2013, following a Greek initiative, and is being submitted for adoption this year, as it is every year, within the context of the work of the Third Committee.
The event will take place in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) room, at UN headquarters in New York, from 13:15 to 14:45. The main speakers will be the Greek Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Aikaterini Boura, the Lithuanian Permanent Representative, Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaite, and representatives of the academic community and civil society.
